The MTC (Multiplication Tables Check) is a statutory assessment for Year 4 pupils in England, aimed at ensuring they can recall their multiplication tables fluently up to 12×12.

It is administered online and consists of 25 questions, with each question requiring an answer within a 6-second time limit.
- The Multiplication Tables Check will include only multiplication facts (e.g. 7 x 6). Division facts will NOT be tested.

The MTC is conducted in a two-week window in June each year, allowing school to choose the exact timing for its administration.

The purpose of the MTC is to help identify pupils who may need additional support in mastering multiplication, which is essential for their future mathematical success in Year 5 and beyond.

We will present this to the children in a relaxed way and they will have the opportunity to practise many times both in and out of school.
