Our Global Goal

Our Global Goal

Broomhaugh CE First School has a big heart and a passion for supporting the local community and the wider world. All members of our school community take an active role in looking after God’s world. We pride ourselves on acting with dignity and integrity and ask children and adults alike to work together to build a fairer and more sustainable world for everyone. We are striving to maintain our status as a Climate Friendly School and limit the impact that we have upon the climate and the planet. The work we carry out in school fully supports both Northumberland County Council’s and the DfE’s aim to be Net Zero by 2030.

On entry to reception, the children are introduced to the United Nation's Global Goals in an age-appropriate way. The work they begin in reception continues and builds throughout their time in school. We want our children to become courageous advocates therefore each class chooses a Global Goal to concentrate their efforts. They work to promote and champion their chosen goal in many different ways throughout the school year before moving onto the next class and a new Global Goal.

Year 1 and 2 focus on Global Goal 15: Life On Land

As part of our commitment to developing responsible and caring learners, Key Stage 1 pupils are exploring Life on Land (SDG 15) from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This important global goal focuses on protecting forests, plants, animals and natural habitats. Through engaging and age-appropriate activities, children learn why nature is important and how they can help look after the world around them.

In Key Stage 1, pupils:

  • Explore different plants and animals

  • Learn why trees and green spaces matter

  • Understand simple ways to care for the environment

  • Develop respect for living things

This topic links closely with our Science and Geography curriculum and supports the development of key values such as responsibility, kindness and environmental awareness.

By introducing Life on Land at an early age, we aim to inspire a lifelong appreciation for nature and empower our pupils to make positive choices that protect our planet.
