Week 6. Reception Class collected some wildflowers and leaves to do some hapa zome art. We put the flowers and leaves in between two layers of fabric and hit them gently with a hammer. What a beautiful piece of hapa zome artwork! We love playing Foxy, Foxy on the field. Week 5. Class 1 made lentil dahl on the fire today. We looked at and smelled the ingredients; it was fun guessing what all the spices were We made the stock to add to the pan. We kept stirring it while it was cooking. When the dahl was ready, we toasted some naan bread on the grill. We all tried it and lots of us had second and even third helpings until it was all gone! Reception Class made clay models during their session. Week 4. Class 1 played Minefield for the first time today. Our friends have to give us clear instructions to help us safely navigate the minefield while we are blindfolded! Minefield needs good communication skills, trust and teamwork. A fantastic wooden hat was made today. Some of us cut wood cookies again this week. We enjoyed a game of Creeping Coyote to finish the session. Reception class started their session listening to the story Cave Baby. We don't have a cave to do our artwork in, so we used paper to draw on with the charcoal that we made last week. Some of us drew on more than just the paper! At the end of the afternoon we played Foxy, Foxy, Can We Cross Your Field. Week 3. Class 1 went to the Secret Garden to collect some willow. We used lots of tools to make a variety of things out of willow. The children wanted to use the bow saw again to cut more wood cookies. Reception Class learned the three things that a fire needs: fuel, heat and oxygen. We collected sticks for the fire. We put the charcoal tin (filled with last week's peeled willow) in the fire and left it there until steam stopped coming out of the holes. While the willow was turning into charcoal, we toasted crumpets on the fire. Crumpets are delicious with butter and jam. We built some tarpaulin dens too. Week 2. Reception Class played Kim's Game. We had 10 natural objects that we had to remember. Sarah covered them up and removed one thing...we then had to work out what was missing. Then we went to the Secret Garden to cut some willow. We used the secateurs and the loppers to cut the willow branches into shorter lengths. Next we peeled the willow and put it into a tin, ready to make charcoal next week. Class 1 went bug hunting this week. We found a big beetle. Hunting for bugs. We toasted crumpets on the campfire. Crumpets are delicious with butter and jam! The bug hunters found a caterpillar and named him Woody. Class 1 finished their session with a game of Creeping Coyote. Stealth was needed to steal the treasure! Week 1. This week Reception Class and Class 1 played a plant matching card game. Then we identified all the different plants in the pictures. We learned how to use a bow saw safely. Using the bow saw, we cut a slice of wood off an old branch. We used the pens to decorate our wood cookies. We were so pleased with our wood cookies and we loved using the bow saw to make them. Some of us used a palm drill to make a hole in our wood cookie. This way to the train station!
