December 15th. Reception class started their session with a chocolate Santa treasure hunt.
-
-
-
-
We boiled water in our kelly kettle to make hot chocolate.
-
We all ate our chocolate Santa and drank our hot chocolate.
-
Delicious!
-
-
-
It was below freezing in the woods today so after our hot chocolate we played Foxy, Foxy, Can I Cross Your Field to help us keep warm.
-
At the end of our session we passed the Talking Tree round the circle and shared what we had enjoyed most today.
-
December 12th. Class 1 started their session with a chocolate Santa treasure hunt.
-
-
We all found a chocolate Santa Claus.
-
-
We used our Kelly kettle to boil water for the first time. It was very exciting when the kettle whistled when the water boiled!
-
-
We made hot chocolate to warm us up in the sub zero temperature!
-
-
-
-
-
-
Our chocolate moustaches made us smile!
-
-
This was Class 1's last Forest School session until the summer. We think the woods will look and feel very different by then!
-
December 8th. Today we cooked woodland apple crumble on the campfire with Reception class.
-
We put butter, apples, sugar, cinnamon and cornflour in the pan and cooked it.
-
-
While the apples were cooking we climbed trees...
-
...rolled in leaves...
-
...and explored the area.
-
-
-
Then it was time to clean and sanitise our hands.
-
Sarah served the apple mixture on a digestive biscuit.
-
We loved the woodland apple crumble!
-
-
December 5th. After a game of Funky Monkey, Class 1 got busy making a variety of bird feeders.
-
We want to encourage more birds to our site and also give the birds a Christmas feast!
-
We made some pine cone feeders.
-
We reused and decorated old milk bottles and filled them with bird seed.
-
-
-
We also hung up some fat balls.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
What will we find when we dig in the soil?
-
We found a worm!
-
-
-
-
Woodland drums!
-
It was very wet and cold this afternoon, but we were treated to a fabulous rainbow towards the end of our session.
-
December 1st. Today it was Reception Class's turn to celebrate National Tree Week.
-
After chatting about all the wonderful things that trees give us (oxygen, fruit, leaves, forests, wood), we had a go at bark rubbing.
-
-
We made some fantastic bark rubbing pictures.
-
We enjoyed playing our wood xylophone.
-
Trees are great to climb too!
-
-
-
Without our trees in the woods, we wouldn't be able to put up the hammock. Thank you trees!
-
We also had a go at hammering nails into pumpkins and squash.
-
-
We love digging for hidden treasure (conkers!) in the woods.
-
November 30th. We are celebrating National Tree Week in Forest School this week.
-
After a lively discussion about what makes trees so fantastic, we played the Tree Game.
-
If the counter calls out the tree we are standing by, we are out. We keep going until we have a winner!
-
We climbed trees...
-
...we hugged trees...
-
...we made bark rubbings with wax crayons on paper.
-
-
-
We made beautiful pictures of trees with sticks and leaves.
-
We were kindly given some pumpkins and squash. We used them to practice using a hammer and nails.
-
-
-
-
-
-
Hammering nails in is a fiddly job and it is easier to get the nails into pumpkins than wood!
-
-
-
We enjoyed digging for treasure too!
-
-
-
-
Another lovely afternoon in the woods!
-
November 24th. Reception class cooked pancakes over the fire today.
-
-
The pancakes were delicious with honey on.
-
-
-
We made interesting things with sticks and yarn and used the pens to colour the yarn.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
We had fun climbing trees.
-
-
November 21st. Class 1 enjoyed having a campfire.

-
...and made s'mores.
-

-
-
Some of us made fairy houses and bug homes.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Some of us played a game called The Floor is Lava where you can't touch the floor!
-
-
We also played Spot and Scatter and had lots of fun in the woods as usual.
-
November 14th. Class 1 enjoyed a mild afternoon in the woods.
-
We started the session with a few games of Spot (a variation of hide and seek). Then some of us created beautiful things with willow and yarn.
-
-
-
-
-

What a great collection of autumn leaves!
-
We love playing with our friends in Forest School.

It's always interesting to see what we can find when we dig in the ground.
-
