We made lots of beautiful things out of clay.

Week 11. After last week's Spring Equinox, Reception class went on a hunt around the school grounds for signs of Spring.
-
We found Spring flowers and lots of new buds and leaves.
-
We learned how to use the loppers to cut some willow.
-

We also used the secateurs to trim bit of willow.
-
We used colourful yarn and fabric scraps to turn our willow sticks into magic wands!

Year 3 and 4 toasted marshmallows on the fire and made s'mores.

We learned to use the loppers to cut lengths of willow.

Sometimes we peel and sharpen willow sticks to make different things.

Week 10. Year 3 and 4 cooked toffee apple slices on the campfire this week.

They were delicious.

Some of us built dens.

Some of us collected tiny leaves and made 'herbs'.

Some of us made some Easter eggs in a nest.

We all love playing the hiding game Spot.

Reception Class made French toast (or eggy bread).
-
We measured out the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla essence and cinnamon. Then we mixed it all together.
-
We soaked thick slices of bread in the mixture then cooked them over the fire.
-
We ate our French toast with honey or jam...
-
...and we loved it! Most of us had seconds!

Everyone loves cooking in Forest school.

Week 9. Reception Class played Minefield for the first time and had to listen carefully to their friends' directions.
-
Our log dogs from a few weeks ago are still being played with and taken for walks.

We love climbing trees!

Reception Class are getting good at building dens with the tarpaulins.
-
Years 3 and 4 played Web of Life. The web simulated an ecosystem and we learned how all the inhabitants of an ecosystem are connected.
-
We saw how any change, loss or damage to any part of the ecosystem can affect the whole community.
-
We used the fire steel to light mini fires.
-
The fire steel can be tricky to use and we needed patience and perseverance. We were so proud of ourselves when we successfully lit a fire!

Week 8. Year 3 and 4 (Rabbits and Hedgehogs) received their certificate and badges for completing the Ruby Robin challenge.

We played Minefield.

Wearing a blindfold, we had to listen carefully to our friends' instructions so that we could cross the minefield safely.

Reception class enjoyed the story One Year with Kipper to celebrate World Book Day.

Week 7. Reception class listened to the story Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. We loved all the dogs in the book.

We decided to make our own dogs - log dogs!

First we found a good log, then we drew a face on our log dog.
-
We had fun thinking of names for our dogs.
-
We learned how to do a lark's head knot to attach a lead to our dogs.
-

Some of our log dogs enjoyed lying in the hammock.

We took our log dogs for a walk on the field.

Some of us got busy building dens and tents to play in later.

Week 6. A Valentine's Dinner for two! Years 3 and 4 made Pitta Pocket Pizzas.

We filled pitta bread with tomato pizza topping and cheese.
-
Then we wrapped them in foil and popped them on the grill to cook.
-
We loved our Pitta Pocket Pizzas, even if they were a bit of a tongue twister to say!

Some of us made a forest shop.

The Human Knot Challenge was very funny and really got us thinking.

Reception Class enjoyed a matchbox scavenger hunt.

The children found such a variety of natural objects to put into their matchboxes.

Week 5. To celebrate National Storytelling Week, our sessions involved the groups making up and telling their own stories using natural objects.
-
Our stories were very creative and rather amusing at times!

Reception class did their storytelling in the hide in the Secret Garden.

Year 3 and 4 made God's Eyes, or Mexican Eyes.
-
We used sticks and different coloured yarn.
-
Popular in Mexico, a God's Eye is thought to protect the person who makes it.
-
Reception enjoyed digging for treasure.

We love playing Foxy, Foxy Can We Cross Your Field.

Year 4 made an excellent den.

Week 4. Reception class listened to the story In My Nest. We learned about all the things that birds can use to build their nests.
-
Our challenge was to build a nest for Little Robin.
-
A hollowed out tree stump is a good place for a nest.
-
We used sticks and leaves to line our nests.
-
-
Some of us wanted more mud to build our nests so we went onto the field and used some mole hill mud.
-

Week 3. As it is the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch this weekend, Reception children made mosaic bird feeders.

We used the palm drills to make hole in a piece of cardboard.
-
We threaded yarn through the holes then spread lard onto the cardboard.
-
Next we sprinkled bird seed onto the lard.
-
The birds will love these!

We hung our feeders around the forest area.

Week 2. We had a special visitor in our Forest School sessions this week to celebrate National Winnie the Pooh Day.
-
Winnie the Pooh himself came along as he'd heard that we were toasting pancakes and eating them with his favourite food - honey!
-
We listened to the story of when Winnie the Pooh visited his friend Rabbit and got stuck in Rabbit's doorway after eating a bit too much honey.

Then we toasted pancakes.

Week 1. Snow, ice and freezing cold temperatures! Reception went for a winter walk to feed the birds and look for wildlife tracks in the snow.

We carried a snowman into the woods to play with.

We boiled water in the kelly kettle and made hot blackcurrant juice.
