Global Goals at Broomhaugh CE First School

Broomhaugh CE First School has a big heart and a passion for supporting the local community and the wider world. All members of our school community take an active role in looking after God’s world. We pride ourselves on acting with dignity and integrity and ask children and adults alike to work together to build a fairer and more sustainable world for everyone. We are striving to maintain our status as a Climate Friendly School and limit the impact that we have upon the climate and the planet. The work we carry out in school fully supports both Northumberland County Council’s and the DfE’s aim to be Net Zero by 2030.

On entry to reception, the children are introduced to the United Nation's Global Goals in an age-appropriate way. The work they begin in reception continues and builds throughout their time in school. We want our children to become courageous advocates therefore each class chooses a Global Goal to concentrate their efforts. They work to promote and champion their chosen goal in many different ways throughout the school year before moving onto the next class and a new Global Goal.

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

We chose this goal for our youngest learners for many reasons. We want our children to grow up knowing that they have a choice when it comes to consumption. In reception we ask children to be responsible consumption champions by only using reusable water bottles, no single use plastic for snack times and making sure we minimise food waste at lunch time by eating as much as we can on our plates. 

Recycling

We will teach our children the importance of recycling and what better way to do this with a fully stocked junk modelling area! Come back soon to check out our amazing creations.
