Message from the Chair of Governors

I am delighted to have been elected Chair of Governors at Broomhaugh Church of England First School. Broomhaugh is a fantastic small village school providing a rich, varied and high quality education for the children of our community.

Our team of governors are volunteers appointed by parents, the local authority, the diocese and the Parochial Church Council of St James’ and together bring a variety of skills and expertise to support Mrs. Hart and school at a strategic level. It is a privilege to serve as governors and we take the responsibility very seriously. As well as overseeing the direction and leadership of the school as a board, we meet as smaller committees to look at many other things such as school finances, policies and curriculum development, standards and monitoring. We are supported in our role by our school improvement partner, Mrs Louise Malin, who continues to challenge us and ensure curriculum and provision in school are of the highest standard. Governors also visit school regularly to fulfil statutory duties and build up relationships with subject leaders as ‘link’ governors, furthering our understanding of the children’s experience and development at Broomhaugh.

During the past 18 months we have developed close links with Corbridge Church of England First School through sharing a Head and Deputy Head between the two schools. Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Burton bring strong leadership and vision across both schools and we look forward to continuing this relationship and the mutual benefits it brings.

Finally, I’d like to thank Mrs Hart, Mrs. Burton and the entire staff team, fellow governors, parents and children for their dedication to Broomhaugh and working hard together to create a happy, thriving school environment.
